Didactical Concept
Objectives
The aim of this document is to introduce you to the virtual learning environment (VLE) which aims to facilitate and enrich the learning process of the students.
Coherence with the learning CD
The function of the virtual learning environment is to complement the contents which are presented in the learning CD.
We refer specifically to:
- Additional resources to foster a global learning about the basic skills to communicate using the different languages. The learning CD is focused on the learning of specific skills necessary to interpret and solve particular situations in the control rooms, with the VLE it is possible to support the capability to hold a general conversation around a great variety of topics.
- Various types of communication are offered which have been designed to promote the ability to speak beyond the transfer of knowlege, for this purpos voice chats are available.
The learning material is partly integrated in the VLE, so that the learners will be able to easily combine the work with the keywords and dialogs and the contents provided in the learning CD.
Free accessible elements.
These elements should promote a better acquisition of a foreign language depending on the linguistic competence in the general language.
For beginners it is necessary to know the basic rules of the grammar, to have some practice in constructing sentences, etc.
The advanced learner may be more interested to improve the linguistic competence beyond the needs of a control-room operator.
- Basic language:Free learning webs of the different languages.
- 112 International:Information about the organisation of emergency services in other countries
- Culture and Leisure:News, leisure, culture, magazines...
- Encyclopedies:General knowledge
- Dictionaries:Free online dictionaries.
- Media in Internet:links to web pages which offer the possibility to listen audio online (mainly news stations)
- Audio books:An audiobook is a recording that is primarily of the spoken word as opposed to music. While it is often based on a recording of commercially available printed material, this is not always the case. It was not intended to be descriptive of the word "book" but is rather a recorded spoken program in its own right and not necessarily an audio version of a book.

Profiles of the Virtual learning environment
The participants in the virtual learning environment are divided in a set of profiles. Each profile has its own objectives and privileges.
- Learner: student of the course - Control room operators.
- Teacher: person who is a native speaker or has a linguistic competence in that particular language of the classroom which allows to communicate with learners in an appropriate manner. The native language is indicated by the national flag left from the name; the linguistic competence in the language of the classroom is indicated by the various levels of the European reference frame for languages to be seen right from the name.
Virtual classrooms
For each language 1 classroom has been designed. As such, when the learner entering the classroom section will find different classrooms devoted to learn each one of the languages.
To access one classroom click on it.
In the classrooms one can identify who is online together with the linguistic level of the colleagues.
The classrooms will contain the following communication area:
- Voice chat:Especially developed to work the conversation and the language comprehension aspects. It's a free chat, where learners can talk freely about different issues. It's also very appropriate to practice the dialogues.
